Cheltenham Town’s league history is now on Cheltenham Open Data, from the 1999–2000 season to the current one, in more than 380 new pages that update as new results are published.

It starts on the Cheltenham Town FC page, which now shows the current season’s record at home and away alongside the next fixture, with a link to Cheltenham’s record against their next opponent.

Every Season Since 1999

The league record by season sets all 28 seasons side by side: final position, wins, draws, defeats, goals, points and points per game, home and away. Points per game makes seasons of different lengths comparable. On that measure the 2015–16 National League title, at 2.20 points per game, is Cheltenham’s best season, followed by the 2020–21 League Two title and the curtailed 2019–20 season, both at 1.78.

Every season from 2000–01 links to its full league table, with points deductions applied and points per game for every club. The 2019–20 table is sorted by points per game, as the EFL decided it when COVID-19 stopped the season, which is why Cheltenham finished fourth with fewer points than Exeter City in fifth. Each season page also lists every Cheltenham league match that year with half-time scores, the referee, shots, corners, fouls and cards.

Every Opponent

Since 2000–01 Cheltenham have played 1,199 league matches against 100 different clubs, winning 409, drawing 339 and losing 451. Each club has its own head-to-head page with the record home and away, goals by half, how often Cheltenham held on to a half-time lead or came from behind, match stats for both sides and every meeting.

Northampton Town are the most frequent opponents, with 32 meetings: Cheltenham have won 13, drawn 9 and lost 10. Among clubs met at least ten times, Macclesfield Town have been the kindest, at 1.90 points per game over 21 matches, and MK Dons the toughest, at 0.50 over 12. The biggest win in that time was 7–1 away at FC Halifax Town on 3 October 2015.

Every Referee

The referee records cover all 253 referees who have taken charge of a Cheltenham league match since 2000–01, with wins, draws, defeats, points per game, and yellow and red cards for both sides. T Kettle has refereed the most, 20 matches. Of referees with at least ten Cheltenham matches, Cheltenham have done best under A Haines, at 2.09 points per game over 11, and worst under C Breakspear, at 0.60 over 10.
