Gloucestershire Cricket
Gloucestershire County Cricket Club, founded in 1870, is the county’s professional cricket club, with both a men’s and a women’s team. Most of its home matches are played in Bristol, but every summer the club brings cricket to Cheltenham for the Cheltenham Cricket Festival, held at the College Ground in the grounds of Cheltenham College.
The College Ground has hosted first-class cricket since 1872, and the festival is described as the longest-running cricket festival on an outfield in the world. W. G. Grace, the club’s first captain, scored 318 not out there in 1876, the first triple century in a county match. Gilbert Jessop, one of the game’s fastest scorers and captain of the club from 1900, was born in Cheltenham, and his birthplace is on our points of interest map.
Gloucestershire Men
The men’s team plays in the County Championship, the county game’s first-class competition played over four days, as well as the one-day and T20 Blast competitions. The 2026 festival included both a four-day match and shorter-format games.
Gloucestershire Women
Gloucestershire Women play in the women’s domestic one-day and T20 competitions. The women play matches at the Cheltenham Cricket Festival as well as in Bristol, so the festival is a chance to see both teams in one summer.

The 2026 festival ran from 8 to 23 August at Cheltenham College, with two women’s matches and three men’s matches, including a four-day County Championship match against Worcestershire. - About 36 miles south-west of Cheltenham as the crow flies, so allow a much longer journey than for the Cheltenham matches.
- The club recommends public transport: several bus services stop within a few minutes' walk on nearby Gloucester Road, and parking near the ground is limited.
