Cheltenham School Closures
When bad weather or an emergency forces a school to close, the head teacher posts the closure on Gloucestershire County Council’s closures page. This page picks out the Cheltenham schools from that county-wide list, so you can see at a glance whether your child’s school is affected today, or has already announced it will be closed tomorrow.
Snow and ice, burst pipes, loss of heating or hot water, and power cuts are the usual reasons. Every closure is also kept in the school closures history, and you can follow new closures in any feed reader through the school closures feed. For every school in town, with Ofsted ratings, see Cheltenham schools.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is My Child's School Closed Today?
- If the school is not in the table above, it has not posted an emergency closure on Gloucestershire County Council's closures page.
- We check the council's page four times a day, so a closure posted in the last few hours may not show here yet. The council's closures page always has the latest, and your school's own website, app or text messages come first.
Why Do Schools Close in an Emergency?
- Common reasons are snow and ice, a burst pipe or loss of heating or hot water, a power cut, or not having enough staff to open safely.
- Each school's head teacher decides whether to close and posts the closure with the council.
Does This Include Half Term and Inset Days?
- No. Only unplanned closures appear here. For planned holidays, see the council's term dates.
Can I Get an Alert When a School Closes?
- Yes. Subscribe to our school closures feed in any feed reader, or the all-in-one alerts feed for every local alert. Closures also show at the top of our home page while they are in force.
- The council also sends email alerts for closures across Gloucestershire.
