About Cheltenham Open Data: Local data for local people

Mission

  • The mission has always been to make a local website for local people. Without the big tech overlords, the data-harvesting and sites full of pop-ups, popovers, scam adverts and misleading clickbait headlines.

Privacy

  • The site using a tracking analytics script from ahrefs.com, this is to monitor site usage and to spot and fix errors. Data is never personalised nor sold.

Data

  • Data is sourced from public facing sources such as RSS feeds, ONS and Government data under the Open Government Licence.

Tech

  • The site is built using a static site generator so it’s lightning quick on the client end as it’s just HTML and CSS and a bit of JavaScript. Python and GitHub Actions provides the compute for most things, and a little is run on the developer’s local machine.
