Accessibility Statement
How Cheltenham Open Data is built and tested to be usable by everyone, what we know could be better, and how to tell us about a problem.
Accessibility
We want everyone in Cheltenham to be able to use this site, whatever device or assistive technology they use. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
How We Build and Test the Site
- Pages are checked with the ARC Toolkit and Google Lighthouse accessibility audits.
- Changes are checked automatically by linters covering page structure, text and style sheets.
- Every page has a “skip to main content” link and light and dark themes, and is built to work with a keyboard.
- Colour is never meant to be the only way information is shown. Charts use a palette chosen to stay readable with colour blindness, and statuses are also given in words, such as “Planned” or “Unplanned”.
- Data shown on a map or chart is also given in a table you can sort and read with a screen reader.
- Dates and times are written the same way everywhere, for example 2026-10-09 14:30, so they read clearly.
What Could Be Better
- The interactive maps are harder to use with a keyboard or screen reader. Everything on a map is also listed in the table below it.
- Some long tables scroll sideways on small screens.
- Some linked documents, such as PDFs from other organisations, are outside our control and may not be accessible.
Tell Us About a Problem
If something on the site is hard to use, or you need information in a different format, contact us and tell us the page and what went wrong. We’ll reply and fix what we can.
