Cheltenham Open Data has published a new where to eat page, mapping the town’s restaurants, cafés, pubs, bars and takeaways with their official food hygiene ratings.
Every venue has a pin on the map, and selecting one shows its rating, when it was last inspected, its address and a link to its official record. Below the map, a sortable table lists every venue with its rating and inspection date.
The page sits under Things to Do and is linked from the visiting Cheltenham guide, the student guide and the food hygiene ratings pages, which still list every food business in Cheltenham.

Where Does the Data Come From?
- The Food Standards Agency’s Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, published under the Open Government Licence v3.0. The venue types are the ones the Food Standards Agency assigns, not our own judgement.
How Often Is It Updated?
- Every couple of hours, so a new rating appears soon after the council publishes it.
Do I Need to Check Opening Hours?
- Yes. The page lists venues and their ratings but not when they are open, so check a venue’s own site or phone line before you go.
Does a Hygiene Rating Tell Me How Good the Food Is?
- No. It measures how safely food is handled and how clean the premises are, not the taste, the service or the atmosphere.
