Planned roadworks and closures on the M5, A417, A40 and A46 within 10 miles of Cheltenham, from National Highways open data.

Cheltenham Open Data has published a new roadworks page, mapping planned roadworks and closures on the main roads around Cheltenham.

It covers the motorways and major A roads within 10 miles of the town centre: the M5, the A417 including the Air Balloon roundabout, the A40 towards Gloucester and the A46 at Shurdington. Each entry shows when the works start and finish, the expected delay and, where one is published, the diversion route. Many of the longest A417 closures are part of the A417 Missing Link scheme.

This joins car parks, cycle routes and bus data under Getting Around.

  • A map and table of planned roadworks on National Highways roads within 10 miles of Cheltenham, with start and end dates, expected delay, whether the works are in progress and a link for directions.

Where Does the Roadworks Data Come From?

  • National Highways, which publishes its planned roadworks weekly as open data under the Open Government Licence v3.0.

How Often Is It Updated?

  • Daily. National Highways publishes a new list each week, and works that have finished are removed from the page every day in between. The “last updated” date is on the page.

Why Are Local Streets Not Included?

  • The page only covers roads managed by National Highways. Works on local roads are run by Gloucestershire County Council and utility companies, and are shown on the council’s roadworks map.
