The town does significantly better than England on eight measures and significantly worse on none. The page also shows how much health varies within the town: men in the most deprived areas live 12.2 years less than men in the least deprived.

FAQs

What Does the Public Health Page Show?

  • Life expectancy and healthy life expectancy, deaths under 75, suicide, smoking, physical activity, adult and child weight, alcohol admissions, wellbeing, cancer screening, fuel poverty and air pollution, each compared with England. A chart tracks life expectancy for men and women every year since 2001.

Is There Anything for My Ward?

  • Yes. A table shows the share of Year 6 children who are overweight or obese in each of Cheltenham’s 20 wards, from 16.7% in College to 43.6% in Springbank, and each ward page now gives its own figure.

Where Does the Data Come From?

  • The Office for Health Improvement and Disparities’ Fingertips public health profiles, which gather figures from the Office for National Statistics, the NHS, Sport England and others. It is published under the Open Government Licence.

How Often Is It Updated?

  • The page checks for new figures every month. Most measures change once a year, and each row shows the period it covers.
