Cheltenham Open Data has published a new council land & assets page.
The page maps and tabulates every property and piece of land Cheltenham Borough Council reported owning or holding, as required under the Local Government Transparency Code — car parks, parks, offices, housing land and more, each with its tenure type and how the council holds it. A 2021 snapshot of the same dataset is also available alongside the current 2023 one.

What Does the Land & Assets Page Show?
- A map and sortable table of every asset in Cheltenham Borough Council’s land and assets return, including its address, tenure type (freehold or leasehold), tenure detail and holding type.
Where Does the Data Come From?
- Cheltenham Borough Council originally published this under the Local Government Transparency Code, but the council’s own open data page for it has since gone offline. This page uses a public GitHub mirror of the original CSV exports, kept by developer Chris Mytton — who also built his own map of the data.
Why Two Different Years?
- The council published a return in 2021 and again in 2023, using a slightly different set of columns each time. Rather than pick one, both snapshots are on the site so you can compare.
Is This Every Council Asset?
- It’s everything in the council’s own transparency return for that year — it won’t necessarily include every asset acquired or disposed of since, and since the source page is offline there’s no newer official return to check it against.
